My Story
However, I also seemed to acclaim the knowledge that Romeo and Juliet were in love. I did not waste time in haste and went to go look for Romeo. For as long as anyone could remember our family, the Capulets, and the Montagues have been at quarrel. There has never been anything that could mend our bleeding wounds. It was just how life was intended for us, hate and rivalry was nature.
On a bright and opportunistic day, I was suddenly aroused by the sounds of commotion and fighting. Oh, it was like music to my ears. The other Capulets and I hurried to the scene not to be surprised by Benvolio and the petty Montagues stirring a civil brawl. Benvolio tried to talk words of peace with me while he had his sword drawn. What an ironic and pathetic fool. I had no choice but to attend this wonderful duel and showcase my weaponry skills. Everything was stopped by the Prince and his men as their horses galloped to the site. The fight was quickly broken up and my uncle decided to hold a celebration the next day. How odd of him to that, but maybe it was to better our wearied souls All was going well at the party until I heard the voice of Romeo and his cursed friends. I was absolutely infuriated and hurried to tell my Uncle Capulet. When I told him, he was too busy by his drinks to do anything and told me to leave him alone. Leave him alone? Nobody of the Montague household should dare try to partake in a Capulet feast. It was an act of contempt of disrespect and I never forgot about it. Later, I found out that my uncle held the feast to give Paris a chance to woo Juliet, in hopes that the two will fall in love and get married like my uncle and aunt have always intended. |
I brought along Petruchio and some others to accompany me and when I approached Mercutio, I asked for Romeo, but this fool of words provocatively attacked me with a coward’s language then challenged me to a duel. His skills were nowhere near mine and when Romeo got in between us to break us apart, I got Mercutio right under Romeo’s arm. His last words damned both of our families and then Romeo out of vengefulness, he suddenly drew a sword and stabbed me, resulting in my subsequent death.
Watching everything as a ghost, I saw Prince Escalus and his men rush to the scene and the truth was told by Benvolio. As a consequence, Romeo was lucky enough to avoid a death punishment and was instead given a lifetime banishment from Verona and was told to live in Mantua. It was too little a sentence for the account of a fatal assault. I payed for it by my own death and Romeo only had banishment? Oh how luck is always on his side. I quickly followed the news that was spread to Juliet and she went to go see Friar Lawrence and what I heard was absolutely preposterous. Juliet planned on drinking a vial of potion that faked her death, only to be saved by Romeo in her tomb a couple days later. It was unthinkable and an outrageous measure that my cousin, Juliet, was going to choose. She ended drinking it and oh how my family reacted. Everybody was in complete disbelief as they all thought that she was dead. I do not know if her actions were justifiable in the name of love, but she can see what her actions can yield. Now, as her beloved cousin, I was near her watching over her and as time passed, Juliet was still in her tomb, waiting for Romeo to retrieve her, but somehow Romeo did not receive it. I then saw Romeo approach the tomb of Juliet on one side and Paris come near on the other. They soon found each other and fought and Paris ended up being killed. Romeo opened up the tomb and laid next to Juliet, lamenting and grieving. He then took a vial of what seemed to be lethal poison and drank it. With his last words, “Thus with a kiss I die.” Romeo rested his weary soul. With Friar Lawrence also running to the tomb, he saw Romeo’s dead body and at that moment, Juliet woke up. She saw her one love and saw how the person that this plan was all for had taken his own life. Out of heartache and unbearable anguish, Juliet stabbed herself with Romeo’s dagger. Oh how useless I felt! I could not do anything as I witnessed everything as a spirit only wishing that I was alive so that I could stop the death of my beloved cousin. Oh coz, you had everything to live for. You were not meant to meet me in spirit this soon. My poor uncle and aunt had endured so much hardship and Lord and Lady Montague had gone through the same pain, losing their only son in Romeo Montague. I guess they had to do it in honor of their children and the feud between the two families were mended. “For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” |
